Our Mission

Our Mission

A love of herbalism naturally led us to be in awe of the humble bee and all it does for agriculture, the environment and its ecosystems. When most people think of 'saving the bees' it’s usually the all-familiar honeybee that comes to mind but there are so many more bee species facing the risk of extinction, and so we have launched the ‘Bee Kind’ initiative in an attempt to do our part in the protection and preservation of these tiny powerhouses.

With every purchase of our Lavender, Oats & Honey Soap, you’re contributing to the 20%* Sam & Sonder will donate to the Barbados Apiculture Association, as well as, the American organization, Xerces’ Pollinator Conservation Programme.

We thank you for your support in this effort and encourage you to read on to learn more about these incredible initiatives and why we chose to support them. We've also partnered with Shopify on the Planet app, where we pledge a percentage of each sale to go towards decreasing our carbon footprint. You can read more about that here.

The Barbados Apicultural Association

The ‘Bee Kind’ Initiative supports the Barbados Apicultural Association (BAA) in hopes of expanding beekeeping practices on the island. Barbados is one of the largest importers of honey in the Caribbean region; with a year-round climate conducive to beekeeping it is our hope that we can aid with job creation in the form of apiary construction & management, small business opportunities, crop pollination and education efforts.

Xerces’ Pollinator Conservation Programme plainly states their campaign focuses on four principles: growing pollinator-friendly flowers, providing nest sites and habitats, avoiding pesticides (which are a major cause for the decline in bee populations) and education via spreading the word. You can sign their pledge here to further show your support in the effort to save the bees and in turn, ourselves.
